Escape to the Berkshires!
You may have heard... that our apt. was overrun by rodents. These were not the cute country mice who sometimes wear miniature clothes and drive Barbie Corvettes- NO!, these were (and sadly are) the terrible, horrible, filthy scourge of New York... RATS! I hate to say or even write the word. Disgusting!!! Long story short, there was a breach in the wall of our landlord's basement and within 2 days we had to flee in the middle of the night like refugees.
Luckily, on the other end of our escape in the night, were the Berkshires. Emily and Lila even came to visit once Scott had to return to work (and to sleep on Danny's couch). Here are some pics of the girls enjoying the lovely weather and a big tote bag of toys.

City Slickers Apple Pickin'
Over Columbus Day weekend we took Louise apple picking at Windy Hill in Stockbridge. It was an incredibly beautiful day- crisp, bright, and scented with the smell of Macouns and Rome Beauties. These holiday weekends are very big news in the Berkshires. The parking lots at the popular hiking spots and orchards swell with cars from out-of-towners and the corn mazes and tractor pulls are jammed with foliage-loving leaf peepers.
That said, there were plenty of apples to go around and we left with some 50 lbs of deliciousness destined for sauces, crumbles, and pies.

Food Strike
For the last week Louise has been on a solid food protest. Is it political? Is she dissatisfied with the playing conditions in the apt.? Is this an early glimpse into her teenager-hood? Whatever the reason, Louise is refusing any form of non-mommy produced sustenance. It's very frustrating and extremely messy. As you can see here, I'm getting creative- leaving the actual feeding up to her. But alas, all her favorite morsels: pears, sweet potatoes, puffs are all cast onto the floor with rebellious contempt.

A Day in the Life
Reading up on the parenting lit.
Farmer's market flowers.
I want to eat my mini pumpkin!
Star Wars character playing Star Wars theme on his accordion.
Getting into trouble.
Our little rascal is 7 and a half months going on 2 years. She thinks she can stand and walk and climb on anything bigger than her which forces her mom to shadow her every move. All. Day. Long. It can get very exhausting and a little boring to stay cooped up in the apt. So we pepper the day with errands and walks and sometimes like today, we even tackle subways and worse- subway steps, to dazzle her highness with the sights of our fair city.
